The state of Victoria was settled by European immigrants in the 1830's as a farming community. In 1851, the discovery of gold transformed this area into a bustlng industrial and commercial centre. Many towns sprung up during this period, but as the gold dwindled so too did many of the towns. We meet Kelly (12) who lives in Taradale , which is one of these ex-gold mining towns. Taradale has a population of about 200, and is about 100 km from Melbourne. In Kelly's school there are only 15 kids!! Kelly will give you a quick lowdown on life in her part of the world. Many thanks to David Hermans for his photos. |
